Who We Are

We are the Bridgwater & District Friends of Cancer Research UK, and are a small, but thriving, group of local volunteers dedicated to raising money for a great cause. The Districts of Sedgemoor and Bridgwater are covered by our committee, who meet monthly and organise functions and collections which raise money to fund research.

The Group has raised over £1,000,000 for Cancer Research UK since it was formed. The important milestone of £1,000,000 was reached in 2019 and we have raised staggering amounts annually since, but this could not have done this without the hard work of our volunteers, the generosity and support of local businesses, individuals and the local community. In 2010 the group were the very proud recipients of the charity’s ‘Flame of Hope’ award, which is only given to the most exceptional volunteers, who have shown outstanding dedication. This was presented to our group and it was lovely to be recognised by Cancer Research UK for our efforts in fundraising in this way. Seven years later (2017) we were overflowing with pride as we were once again honoured with a Flame of Hope Award.
