Since 2003 Cancer Research UK has thanked and recognised committed volunteers and supporters who give so much of their time and energy to help beat cancer sooner through the annual Flame of Hope Awards.
This year Gavin was awarded a special commendation for the new Uniting Communities Award, which celebrates the outstanding contribution of a volunteer who supports Cancer Research UK in a variety of ways across their community.
Gavin received this special commendation because he not only chairs one of the highest fundraising committee’s in the South West, Bridgwater Friends, who are close to raising an incredible £1 million but also is the race event lead for multiple Race For Life events across the area.
In his Committee Chair role Gavin is so passionate about encouraging the local community to support Cancer Research UK, especially to raise more awareness locally that Cancer Research UK is the only charity to fund research in all 200+ types of cancer.
Gavin is always looking to find innovative new ways to support Cancer Research UK in his community. Also over the summer he attends most of the Race For Life events in the South West, from Yeovil to Exeter and Bath, as one of the Key Volunteers bringing these events to life.
You can guarantee no matter which hat Gavin is wearing he is acting as a brilliant ambassador for Cancer Research UK uniting his community to beat cancer sooner!
