As festive as Santa in a Christmas Pudding singing carols… a busy weekend!

The Bridgwater fundraising branch of Cancer Research UK was busy on the 1st and 2nd of December with two fundraising events over the same weekend.

On the Saturday we had stalls set up in Angel Place with our annual sale of festive gifts and crafts together with Christmas cards and books. You might have seen us there in front of the lifts with our tombola that, as ever, proved very popular. We were also out in strategic spots around the shopping center with our collection tins and we want to thank those who spared a coin or two. We raised just over £700 on the day which was excellent, so thank you to everyone who supported.

Once we had packed away the stall in Angel Place our attention turned to the next day and our Christmas Bazaar at the Bridgwater & Albion Rugby club. Some final preparations early evening on the Saturday with loading the van and vehicles with all the equipment needed. Some of us then attended a cabaret evening at Bridgwater Town Hall and had a thoroughly entertaining night, thanks to Richard at Reflections for your hospitality.

After (not enough!) sleep , a few of us arrived at the club well before dawn. The club had held a large charity fundraising night in association with Hinkley the evening before so we worked alongside the cleaning staff to set up the pitches, our Santa Grotto and our own stalls selling crafts, gifts and cards together with books and two large tombola and our trash or treasure game.

We had a good selection of stalls where local craft people sold some high quality wares. The atmosphere was beautifully seasonal. There was face painting and a craft table for the Children as well as the opportunity to meet Santa and get themselves an early present. A friendship group from North Petherton also assisted by providing delicious refreshments.

Father Christmas turned up right on time, and managed to speak to over seventy children. By the end of the day he knew what everyone wanted, and he had made a list and checked it twice!!

The Christmas Bazaar raised over £2,000 which is a good healthy sum for Cancer Research UK. Of course, that was the purpose behind all our efforts. Everyone who turned up and bought something at our two events were helping us to fight that destructive force which effects one in two of people.

You can go on fighting if you wish. Every month you can do your bit to win the battle against Cancer. You just have to go to your bank or log into your online banking, and set up a Standing Order for the Bridgwater branch of Cancer Research UK for say three, four, five or even ten, or twenty pounds. These are the details, Sort Code 30-91-20 and Account Number 00622718.

If you are unable to spare any cash each month perhaps you have some time you wish to donate, please do get in touch as we are always looking for volunteers to support the many events we attend and organise. More details about how you can support and get involved is available at www.bridgwatercruk.org.uk
